re:Wireless Cards, Sniffers, etc

Hi,
I am new and have a wireless rig that I use at home and various Hotspots, etc. I occasionally run other wireless apps looking for threats ,etc. Where should those items be placed for ease of use but maximum protection as well? I am fairly new at least to the wireless world. and I like to stay safe!
Thanks and Bestr to all....

Hi Fallsoff,

can you give me an example of the wireless apps you are referring to? That'd help me answer your question more accurately.

thanks,

-Allen

Hi Allen,
Sorry for the lack of detail. The main one I am using at the moment is NetStumbler. Also the wireless card is a Dlink PCMCIA g630. I have other cards and apps available, but this is what is loaded at the moment. I dont hack but I dont want to be hacked.

This computer is a Dell Latitude C610 P3 refurb that is stable, and cheap enough to carry out and about without worrying too much about theft or other damage.

I may have missed the information somewhere along the way.
Thanks for the response,
Fallsoff

Thanks for the details.

I'm not familiar with NetStumbler, but I can get one of our testers to play with it. If it's an Internet facing application, my default would be to run it in the Safe Zone. But I would not make a rule for it to begin with. First launch it, move it to the Safe Zone, and try it out to see if there are any conflicts. If not, then you can make a rule for it so it starts that way each time by default.

hope that helps.

-Allen

Thank you for the reccomendation, Allen. As soon as I reload Stumbler, I willl install it as directed. Here is the home site:  http://www.stumbler.net/.  I go through experimentative phases.
Best,
Bob
