Invalid installation message

So far I love this product, but would like to resolve one issue. I apologize in advance for the long lead in, but I want to give a relatively complete picture.

I have just done a reformat and clean install (windows XP) on my 5 year old ACER Travelmate 800 laptop. I updated drivers etc from the ACER site and then installed Window Zones trial (I currently have four days left in the trial period). After all this was done, I set up my wife as a second limited access account.

2 or 3 days later installed a trial of Zone Alarm Security Suite 7.0. It ran slow so I THEN decided to upgraded the RAM from 512 to 1280 (I know I should have done that 1st).

As it turns out, I ran into a compatability issue between Zone Alarm 7 and XP, and uninstalled it (including cleaning the reg. and deleting traces as per instructions on there help forum). I then installed Kaspersky internet security suite 6, which seems fine as of today (day 3).

Now for my Window Zones Issue:

When logging on to my wife's account I get the error "Window Zones was unable to load one or more of your preferences. Default settings will be used instead". Then durring her session an "invalid installation please reinstall" error message will pop up. I just noticed this 3 days ago after installing Kasperky, but my wife tells me it was there before. She doesn't remember when she first encountered it. It could have been; before I installed zone alarm, after zone alarm but before the memory upgrade, after the memory upgrade, or after kaspersky.

I would like to purchase Window Zones if I can fix this. Are there any known issues with the programs I mentioned? Can I uninstall/ reinstall while still in the trial period? If so should I do that and see what happens, or should I purchase a license and see if that resolves the problem (assuming the hardware upgrade is the culprit)?

Thank you for your advice.

Update:

This morning I decided to reinstall. The trial period is still set at 3 days left as expected.
The "invalid installation" message is no longer  appearing. Perhaps the hardware change caused the problem?
The "unable to load settings" message still came up when logging onto my wife's user account. I changed it to admin from limited access and now that message is gone as well.

Hi there,

on the licensing issue, it probably was the change of memory amount that tripped up the product activation. It sounds like now you're set. Also, we're working on an updated build that will address some other activation bugs. Customers get free upgrades for a year, so you'd get that and more down the road.

as far as the other issue, I can investigate more in the office tomorrow. However by definition WZ helps users of administrative accounts cut their risk. On a limited user account, I would remove WZ from the auto start-up menu.

I certainly seem to be set. I've made the second login admin as I said in the previous post (I guess I can trust my wife).

I hope you have luck with the activation bugs. I purchased a license key over the weekend and could not activate WZ. Fortunately the sales department was very responsive, and has already replied with a new key, so I'll find out if it works tonight.

Also, I take your point regarding the purpose of WZ. The advice about removing WZ from startup is much appreciated and will be usefull in the future as I sometimes set up guest accounts for house sitters, friends, inlaws, etc.

Thanks again and congrats on an inovative product,

ME
