Installation problems/precautions

- What version of WindowZones you are using (including the Build Date if possible) - v. 0.9 but I didn't see anyplace in the program that stated a build number
- Trial or licensed version : Trial version
- What operating system you are running on:  Windows XP Pro SP2 WGA fully patched running with administrator privileges.

These are some general items on some installation problems I encountered, not complaints.

First, if you are using ProcessGuard (www.diamondcs.com.au) you should disable protection before trying to install WZ or it will not install correctly.

And if you are using Prevx1 (www.prevx.com), I also recommend shutting that down before installing.

I had to install WZ three times (with three crashes) before my PC got back to working normally.

After the third installation, a number of the settings in Zone Alarm pro (ZAP)  had changed, as programs I had previously given permission to access the Internet started asking for permission again.  Although this could be normal behavior because ZAP saw zone changes, the programs asking permission were still in the Administrator's zone, not programs that were changed to the Safe Zone.

I run all my browsers sandboxed using SandboxIE (www.sandboxie.com).  On two reboots Sandboxie crashed.  On the third it was working normally.

Rules:  I added my default browser (www.ambrowser.com) to the rules and it worked fine.

I checked the event logs and in the application events I found this information item for the Windows Zones service:

"WindowZones Service ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Service started"

I think the above was caused by trying to run the second installation in Safe mode.

I also noted that one program, Ace Utilities (www.acelogix.com), that opens with a fixed small window doesn't show the lock until some of its features are used.  )The window then expands to full screen)

Overall, I think this is a neat way to handle the privileges problem, especially through the use of the icon.
